Q: Where do I get the beef?

A: The packaged, flash-frozen beef will be available to pick up at our processor, the Bluebonnet Meat Company at 719 S Pearl St, Trenton, TX 75490.

Q: Why am I buying a "live animal"? 

 

A: In having your own animal processed you are getting beef to your freezer in the absolute most economical way possible.

Q: I'd like to make a purchase, what's the next step? 

 

A: Great! Shoot us a message. We take a deposit to hold your spot, and will send you a final invoice once the live-animal weight is taken at the processor. We accept payments via check or Zelle.

 

 

Q: When is my beef ready for pickup?

 

A: Bluebonnet will contact you when your order is ready for pickup, roughly 12 days after the steer is delivered. Bluebonnet will hold your meat for up to 7 days without additional cost.

​Q: Are y'all grass-fed?

A: Our steers are pasture-raised, grain-finished. Our small herd rotates on 130 acres of Bermuda, Fescue, and native grasses supplemented with quality hay in the winter months. Once our steers reach 550lbs they are given access to grain for the finishing process. This is the ideal way to bring the most flavor, marbling and tenderness to the finished product. Our goal is to meet the criteria for USDA PRIME.

Q: Do y’all use antibiotics?

 

A: We do not. We provide our steers adequate space, quality food, and clean water. We love our animals and strive to give our cattle the best life possible focusing on low-stress cattle handling to maximize both animal health and meat quality.

Q: What type of cuts should I expect with a full, half, or quarter cow?

Q: What type of freezer space will I need?

 

A: We recommend 20 cubic feet for a full cow, 10 for a half, and 5 for a quarter. The conservative recommendation is 1 foot of cubic freezer space for every 25lbs of beef.

 

 

Q: Can I be involved in the cut sheet process?

 

A: Sure! We provide two options and can communicate with the processor on your behalf, but you are welcome to be as involved as you'd like.
